CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN SETUP

A chocolate fountain is a new and exciting way to enhance any type of gathering, whether formal or informal. These fountains are designed with two to three tiers and a base reservoir. Made from stainless steel, chocolate of your choice is placed in the reservoir where it melts to an ideal and maintained temperature. Once the chocolate melts, it is pumped up through an auger to the top tier where it gently spills over the lower tiers, thus the chocolate fountain.

These fountains are amazingly fun yet elegant. You can serve the chocolate with a number of different foods to include pretzels, pound cake, cookies, marshmallows, strawberries, grapes, pineapple, ice cream, and other goodies. In addition to looking great, the melted chocolate fills the air with a sweet fragrance. The chocolate fountain is very affordable but unfortunately, many people bypass using them because they think the setup and tear down to be difficult, which could not be further from the truth.

Now, once you have the base and tiers firmly attached, the stainless steel auger would be inserted. Just make sure you have the auger inserted into the main column so the slot located in the center part of the auger has the bar pointing downwards. Once that is done, the auger should be turned slightly until you feel the slot at the bottom of the auger lock into the drive key located in the center of the bowl's base. After the fountain has been assembled and placed on a level surface, it is time to get serious!

The temperature control would now be set at 250 degrees. While the chocolate fountain is heating up, you will have time to get the chocolate prepared. Although you can choose any flavor chocolate (dark, semi-sweet, white, and so on), you should choose challets or chips, which can be placed directly into the base of the fountain. Then, you simply heat the chocolate until it melts at which time the temperature would be reduced to 175 or 180 degrees. Remember, these chocolate fountains are designed with thermostats that keep the chocolate at the ideal temperature without scorching.

If you are in a hurry or want to save time, you can always heat the chocolate first in the microwave inside zip-lock plastic bags, then placing it in the reservoir. The key to great chocolate is to choose chocolate that has high cocoa butter content. Additionally, you want to add a little thinning or vegetable oil to the melted chocolate, which will make it smooth and creamy while helping it flow through the fountain with ease.

After the chocolate fountain has been filled with the melted chocolate, increase the temperature to between 125 and 150 degrees. Next, turn the auger on, which will create the flow of chocolate from the basin up to the top tier and then flowing down over the lower tiers. As the chocolate flows and warms, people can help themselves to foods for dipping.
